Yoga Retreats
in Nishiawakura

One night. Two days.
Time to slow down.
A small yoga retreat in the mountain village of Nishiawakura, created for those seeking rest, reflection or recovery after a demanding period—or simply a little space away from the usual rhythm of daily life.
Stay with us at Nokishita Toshokan and experience yoga, meditation and breathing practices shaped around you, nourishing vegetarian meals, a local onsen, and time to rest.
With only a few guests, each retreat remains quiet, personal and adaptable. You can come alone, with someone close to you, or as a small private group.
Whether you are completely new to yoga or already have an established practice, you can choose the retreat path that meets you where you are.
Two Ways to Retreat
Not everyone comes to a retreat for the same reason. You may want to understand and deepen an existing yoga practice. Or you may simply need space to slow down, rest and restore your balance.
Our one-night, two-day retreats offer two different paths—both personal, small-scale and shaped around you.
A Different Kind of Retreat
This is not a large destination retreat or an intensive programme with every hour planned.
With no more than four guests, there is time to listen, adapt and shape the experience around the people who are here. The rhythm is intentionally spacious, allowing time for practice and personal guidance, but also for rest, reflection or simply doing nothing.
The intention is not to fill your days. It is to create enough space for you to slow down, reconnect with yourself and experience the quieter rhythm of life in Nishiawakura.
One Night, Two Days
A short retreat can still create meaningful space.
Your time with us begins on Saturday with a shared lunch and a chance to settle in. The afternoon includes yoga and personal guidance, followed by a visit to the local onsen and a relaxed vegetarian dinner.
Sunday begins quietly with meditation, breathing or mindful movement. After breakfast, there is time to rest, walk or simply enjoy the surroundings before a final practice, personal feedback and lunch together.
The exact rhythm may change depending on the retreat you choose and the needs of those attending.
Your Practice, Your Way
Understand your practice. Make it your own.
A personalised retreat for people who already have some experience of yoga and want to explore their practice more deeply.
You may feel unsure how to develop your practice, want more individual feedback than a regular group class can provide, or wish to better understand how movement, breath and sequencing can support you.
Blending the principles of yoga therapy, self-inquiry and practical guidance, we explore what works for your body, your experience and your intentions. Depending on your interests, the retreat may include functional anatomy, alignment, movement, sequencing, breathwork and meditation.
You will leave with greater clarity, personal feedback and a simple, sustainable practice that you can continue at home.

Restore
Slow down. Breathe. Return to balance.
A personalised therapeutic retreat for people seeking rest, stress reduction and greater ease in everyday life. No previous yoga experience is necessary.
We begin by taking time to understand how you are feeling, what your body may need and what you hope to receive from your stay. Drawing from yoga therapy, Ayurveda, mindful movement, breathwork and meditation, we shape the retreat around what will best support you at that moment.
Your practices may include gentle movement, supported postures, breathing practices, meditation and deep rest. You will also receive personal guidance and simple tools that you can continue using after you return home.
RESTORE is not a fixed programme. It is our way of seeing the person in front of us, listening carefully and adapting the experience accordingly.
Thai yoga massage and a private Ayurvedic consultation may also be added to your stay at an additional cost.
Your Stay
Your retreat takes place at Nokishita Toshokan, our traditional Japanese house in the mountain village of Nishiawakura.
Life here is simple and closely connected to the rhythm of the village. You will stay in a comfortable Japanese-style room, share nourishing vegetarian meals, practise in our quiet tatami space and visit the nearby local onsen.
Beyond the practice, there is time to walk in the forest, read, rest or simply enjoy being somewhere different for a while. Nothing is far away, and there is no need to rush from one activity to the next.
When your stay coincides with our Saturday bakery, you will also experience another side of life at Nokishita Toshokan: freshly baked bread, coffee and the gentle liveliness of neighbours and visitors gathering around the same tables.
This is not simply where you sleep between yoga sessions. The house, the meals, the forest, the onsen and the everyday rhythm of the village are all part of the retreat.
